Hello Grand Lakers!
|
|
Why haven't the white bass been biting good
in the mornings? Well, for the last two weeks we have struggled to catch
them until around 10:00 a.m. Then we seem to do well the rest of the day.
We've caught them from three feet deep in some spots and up to 35 feet
deep in others. There is also some surfacing activity, mostly in the late
evenings. As always, we're catching most of them on grubs and spoons.
I haven't tried fishing for black bass much
this last week except for right at daybreak, when we're catching them on
topwaters and weightless senks fished very shallow. We've been catching 10
to 15 keepers, some up to 4 and a half pounds, during the first hour of
the day. I know of quite a few big bass being caught on blue fleck worms
as well.
I'm getting excited about the crappie
fishing coming up. We're catching some in brush piles while we're white
bass fishing now. In another month as the water cools, it looks like we
are going to have a good fall.
I better get to work. This is one of the
few days I won't get to be on the water to fish. My wife has a lot of
things on her list for me to do around the house. Come to think about it,
I could put them off for a couple days. I think I'll go fishing instead! |

Hey folks!
|
|
|
I took my wife fishing the other day. As
usual, she out-fished me, but this time in a big way with a 7 lb.3 oz.
hybrid. We caught it and a lot of white bass in 16 to 35 feet of water on
chartreuse spoons. We went Monday and found some surfacing and caught them
on spinners and grubs. We had a lot of small fish, plus some really nice
ones mixed in.
Right now you just have to go fishing to
catch them. Fall is coming and I am looking forward to some good
catfishing.
My Taxidermy Shop is doing deer this year.
We do deer, fish, fish replicas and some birds. I have 21 years of

Hello Anglers: |
|
Grand Lake bass fishing is good, even
though it is hot and the water is very warm. The level is normal for
summer (744) and the clarity is good all over the lake. At the 744 level
you can find bass in the willows and that pattern is working well. You
just need to find the willows that have about two feet of water in them
for the larger bass. Point willows are always good.
Main lake fishing is consistent with this
time of year patterns. Work points and humps thoroughly and you will find
some bites. The "rig", crank baits or soft plastics are getting action. As
usual, boat docks produce well this time of year. The lighter the line
used the more bites you get it seems. Naturally, light line fish are more
of a struggle to land.
Top water action is really good early and
late or when the sky is overcast. Buzz-baits, chuggers or spooks get their
share of bites and often larger bass on average.
Remember to take lots of hydrating liquids
and consume them before you begin to feel thirsty.
This is a good time of year to practice
getting back into your boat from off shore. Strip down to your bathing
suit, put on a life jacket and go overboard and then work on a plan to get
back into the boat, unassisted. Strongly, suggest that you have at least
one other person with you when you make this move just in case you are
unable to re-board. When this re-boarding is successful, at some time it
would be advisable to practice again, but this time with full clothing.
Obviously, the purpose is to simulate an accidental fall into the lake.
Such practice could be a life saver especially during cold weather. |
|
Good fishing and good luck and as always,
watch out for the severe weather conditions and be safe. Wear that PFD! |
