GRDA to hold free Kyle Williams Safe Boating Courses

Langley – In a continuing effort to educate the public about the Kyle Williams Boating Safety Education Act, the Grand River Dam Authority has scheduled free boater education courses April through June, at the new GRDA Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley.

The courses will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM on the following Saturdays:

·       April 3, 17, 24

1       May 8, 15 22
2       June 12, 26 

The Kyle Williams Act prohibits children between the ages of 12 and 16 years of age; without a valid driver’s license, from operating any vessel powered by a motor of more than 10 horsepower, or sailing vessel 16 feet or longer, without first completing a state approved boater safety course. Children in this age group are also required to have a certificate documenting their course completion. Fines for violating the Kyle Williams Act range from $50 to $500.

GRDA’s courses will provide the necessary safety certification for these age groups. However, adults are also encourage to take attend a course
