Grand Lake Shoreline Cleanup
Scheduled
for this Saturday, May 30
Grand Lake – The Grand Lake Shoreline Cleanup,
originally scheduled for earlier this month, will take place this Saturday, May
30.
Adverse weather led organizers to postpone the cleanup set for May
2. However, the event moves ahead this weekend, and organizers are hoping that
many volunteers will turn out to "lend a hand for Lady Grand."
Made possible by a partnership between the Grand Lake Sail &
Power Squadron (GLSPS), the Monkey Island Association and the Grand River Dam
Authority, the shoreline cleanup is an opportunity for lake residents to unite
their efforts to keep Grand Lake’s scenic shoreline beautiful and free of trash
and debris.
“We are pleased that, for the fifth year in a row, we are able to
be a part of this cleanup effort. It highlights the concern many residents have
for the lake,” said GRDA Community Relations Director Holly Moore. “GRDA is
proud to be a part of the effort and is very appreciative of organizations like
the GLSPS and the Monkey Island Association, as well as the volunteers who
donate their time to keep the shoreline beautiful. Dr. Larry Stout, with the
GLSPS, has really been the driving force behind this all these years and GRDA
certainly appreciates his leadership and commitment to this effort as well.”
Dumpsters will be conveniently located at four different sites
around the lake this year: Grove Springs Park (behind McDonalds); Bernice State
Park; Grand Lake RV Resort; and at the GRDA Lake Patrol Headquarters at the
Pensacola Dam. Dumpsters will be available from 9 AM to 2 PM on May 30 (no household garbage or commercial dumping of dock foam
is allowed).
Anyone interested in taking part can contact the GRDA Community
Relations Department (918 256 5545, ext. 4444) for more information.
