GRDA Floodwater Release
Bulletin June 19 – 9:30 a.m.
At 9:30 AM on Thursday, June
19:
- Grand Lake elevation was
751.51 feet.
- Grand Lake flood pool was at
62.11 percent capacity.
- At the direction of the
United States Army Corps of Engineers, one (1) floodgate was open at
Pensacola Dam, discharging 5,106 cubic feet per second (cfs) of water.
- Six (6) units were online at
the Pensacola Dam powerhouse, releasing 14,500 cfs of water through
generation.
- Releases through floodgates
and generation totaled 19,606 cfs.
- Inflows into Grand Lake
totaled 13,149 cfs.
- Lake Hudson elevation was
631.73 feet.
- Lake Hudson flood pool was at
68.86 percent capacity.
- At the direction of the
United States Army Corps of Engineers, one (1) floodgate was open at
Kerr Dam, discharging 3,835 cubic feet per second (cfs) of water.
- Three (3) units were online
at Robert S. Kerr Dam powerhouse releasing 21,870 cfs of water through
generation.
- Releases through floodgates
and generation totaled 25,705 cfs.
- Inflows into Lake Hudson
totaled 21,740 cfs.
Grand Lake crested at an
elevation of 752.48 at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 17. Lake Hudson crested at 632.42
at 8PM on Monday, June 16.
The Grand River watershed consists
of approximately 12,000 square miles of runoff in parts of Kansas, Missouri and
Oklahoma. Of that total, over half—7,000 square miles—is uncontrolled runoff,
meaning there is no reservoir to control it above the Pensacola Dam. However,
the remaining 5,000 square miles of runoff passes through the John Redmond Dam,
located near Burlington, Kansas, prior to reaching the Grand River system in
Oklahoma.
