GRDA Floodwater release bulletin 05/23/08

At 2 PM on Friday, May 23:

The Grand River watershed consists of approximately 12,000 square miles of runoff in parts of Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Of that total, over half—7,000 square miles—is uncontrolled runoff, meaning there is no reservoir to control it above the Pensacola Dam. However, the remaining 5,000 square miles of runoff passes through the John Redmond Dam, located near Burlington, Kansas, prior to reaching the Grand River system in Oklahoma.

Finally, with Memorial Day Weekend 2008 here, the Grand River Dam Authority takes this opportunity to encourage safe boating on GRDA lakes. For information on lake safety, proper life jacket sizing or lake rules visit www.grda.com or contact the GRDA Lake Patrol at (918) 782-9594. Also, copies of the 2008 GRDA Summer Lake Guide are now available. They can be found at many Hudson and Grand Lake area marinas, as well as the GRDA Lake Patrol Office in Langley.
